Sounds crazy right??

Using BLACK charcoal to whiten your teeth?

Well, let me tell ya. It works JUST as well (maybe even better) and is a HECK of a lot cheaper than those Crest white strips we’ve all used.

My teeth became super sensitive from all those chemicals and unnatural ingredients in all of those teeth whitening kits out there. I mean, I have sensitive teeth to begin with, so they definitely did not help me with that.

Whitening my teeth using activated charcoal has not left my teeth sensitive at all! I have even whitened twice a day (whoops, I just love white teeth & it literally takes 2 or 3 uses to see a major difference).

Okay, so:

1.) You can either make a DIY activated charcoal teeth whitening paste (which I have done & will give you the recipe for below)

but I prefer to..

2.) Purchase this certain activated coconut charcoal powder that is SPECIFICALLY for teeth whitening (super easy to just order on Amazon).

((Some people actually just used plain old activated charcoal powder from capsules and use it to whiten their teeth. I have not tried this, so I don’t have an opinion on this. Has anyone tried!? Do tell.))

Which ever one below that you are leaning toward, both work : )

PREFERRED // BOUGHT Activated Coconut Charcoal Natural Teeth Whitening Paste:
  • WHERE: Amazon!! Right here : ) (NOT getting paid for this- I just love it that much!) Its like $20 and you use a tiny amount everytime- it will literally last forever.
  • WHAT: Wanna know about the naturally derived whitening ingredients? Easy. Organic coconut activated charcoal powder, bentonite, orange seed oil.
  • WHY: Coconut charcoal powder– pulls stains off of your teeth through absorption & coconut is the purest for of food-grade charcoal. Bentonite– easy on your gums and naturally absorbs toxins (yessss). Orange seed oil– a natural teeth whitener, anti-inflammatory, & antiseptic, which is perfect for a teeth whitener.
  •   HOW: 1.) Wet your toothbrush. 2.) Tap to remove excess water. 3.) Dip your toothbrush into the charcoal powder. 4.) Tap off excess powder (a little goes SUCH a long way omg), but be careful because this stuff could get messy. 5.) Brush your soon-to-be pearly whites for 1 – 2 minutes. I do 2 minutes! 6.) Rinse mouth thoroughly to remove charcoal & use water to help keep your sink area clean.
  • TIP: I do this after I clean my teeth with my toothpaste!
  • PRO TIP: Rinse your mouth & swish the water around to get all of the charcoal out/off. It WILL be very black and messy so be careful! Then, rub your toothbrush to get most of the blackness off of it. You can then scrub your teeth to get the little excess black particles still in your teeth out because there WILL still be some. Flossing helps too : )
  •  PRO PRO TIP: Do this entire process in the shower- NO MESS.
DIY Activated Charcoal Teeth Whitening Paste:
  • DIRECTIONS: 1.) Combine melted coconut oil, the powder inside the charcoal pills, & the baking soda. (Keep in mind that too much baking soda isn’t good for your teeth. It is possible to leave baking soda out entirely if you have EXTREMELY sensitive teeth, but starting with 1 tsp or a measurement you are comfortable with will work too). 2.) Stir well until all ingredients are combined. 3.) Let cool. 4.) Lightly dip a new/old/different toothbrush than you use for cleaning your teeth into the mixture. Roughly 1/4 tsp, or more, if needed. 5.) Brush for 1- 2 minutes. I do this after I clean my teeth with toothpaste.

So did I convince you to try it?!

I hope you do. It’s such a game-changer, so much cheaper, and gives major results after 2 or 3 uses.

My sister uses charcoal to whiten her teeth. She buys from a website that donates some of the proceeds to animals, so I’ll probably do the same. I’m in a wedding in February, so I wanted to try to whiten my teeth (the natural way) before the date! I drink a loooot of coffee, so I have noticed that my teeth have definitely been less than stellar lately.

I’ve always seen charcoal being used this way and was hesitant, but you sold me on it! Will have to give it a try, thanks for sharing.

Great review! I have a friend who whitens her teeth with charcoal, and it definitely works! It’s cool that there is a charcoal product made specifically for whitening. All those extra ingredients (coconut and orange seed oil in particular) sound like they would create a kick ass combo for getting rid of those coffee stains. How does it taste?

    • Reply healthyhappyblonde September 6, 2017 at 9:14 PM

It’s awesome!! No taste at all 🙂

I have a friend who does this and I can definitely see the difference. It’s cool that there is a charcoal product made specifically for teeth whitening! How does this one taste? I don’t mind brushing my teeth into a gooey blackened mess (at least temporarily!) but I worry that I’ll spend $20, hate the taste, and never actually use this product again.

My friend just told me she started doing this. As an avid coffee drinker, whiter teeth are just a daydream, but I may try this!
