MORNING HABITS YOU NEED IN YOUR LIFE

Well hey there!

Are you a morning person? Because I am not. 

Now, it doesn’t take me forever to get out of bed (so my only advice for that is an IV of caffeine), but it is hard for me to have a clear mind and fully “wake” my brain up.

Sometimes I hit snooze 14 times. Sometimes I sleep ’til noon. But sometimes, I don’t really get a choice and I need to be up and adam asap.

Here are some habits you should form starting the second you wake up!

HABITS:
  • DON’T HIT SNOOZE: Trust me. I KNOW this is hard, but choose a time to wake up, & tell yourself that hitting that button is not an option.
  • NO PHONE: Keep your phone on ‘do not disturb’ for the first 20 minutes of being awake. It’s important to have some time with your own thoughts. Bonus points if you keep it off during your entire morning routine!
  • WATER: I personally drink about 20 oz. of water the second I wake up & I’m telling you it’s no joke. Try it! You will feel 340% more awake- it’s actually pretty insane. We are made of water & after 7 – 8 hours of sleep, you need to hydrate up (even if you don’t feel thirsty)! Pro tip: Adding a squeeze of lemon in there will help give your digestive system an early start as well.
  • BRING IN SOME NATURAL LIGHT: We actually need natural light at certain times of the day to help our internal clock. Exposing yourself to some natural light in the morning increases your alertness, mood, & productivity levels.
  • MAKE YOUR BED: This can give you a feeling of accomplishment first thing in the morning & will allow you come into a positive/stress-free space at the end of your day.
  • EAT BREAKFAST: Kick-start that metabolism and have a nutritious breakfast! This helps you burn calories later on in your day & focus on your work in the morning. An example of a perfect breakfast would be eggs, or a smoothie. Check out my green smoothie that I make every single day!
  • FOCUS ON THE DAY AHEAD: You cannot change that stressful event, disagreement, or poor test grade that you encountered yesterday! Take this morning to focus on the positives of this new day. I promise, it makes a difference.

Seriously try them out (cause they’re super easy) and I promise you’ll have a more pleasant morning! If a pleasant morning is even possible??

    I am actually a morning person. That’s when I am most alert. My water regimen consists of water with 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar. Soothes the stomach and alkalizes me to start the day.

    Great tips! I completely agree with not hitting the snooze button, it makes it a lot more difficult!

    Such great tips!! I’m definitely NOT a morning person but my 1.5 year old is lol I find making my bed and staying off my phone when I first wake up is the best thing for me! I need to eat breakfast more regularly though.

    I’m a morning person – 5 AM and I’m up! I will say that you made me feel pretty good, though! I employ a good percentage of that list above, but I need to work on getting the 20 oz of water in me right off the bat. I do use lemon. Of course, yes – I do take a look at my phone when I wake up…but it’s not for long. Just a quick update while I’m waiting for my computer (ah, the reason I’m up….work beckons). Thanks for the encouragement!

    These are some great points! I really agree with not hitting snooze, I don’t do it often but when I do I always feel just a little sluggish in getting out of bed. Will definitely make a point of drinking water though…I’ve read that it’s good to do first thing in the morning but never got into the habit.

    my phone and drinking water are things I have to work on…. but I have noticed that natural light helps a ton, opposed to indoor lighting.

    My nemesis is my ipad. I just have to see my emails first thing…bad bad bad….so I’m working on it. Good tips.

    I am TERRIBLE at looking at my phone immediately after I wake up. It’s basically muscle memory now. Definitely one thing I want to get better at. That, and drinking more water!

    It’s the phone that gets me. I find myself saying I’ll browse for 5 minutes, and it eats up 30 minutes so easily. Great tips!

    I have been looking for tips to build a morning routine, and these are some great ones! I think I will try the phone and water ones first. You should organize some of these into a challenge or something! πŸ™‚

    I am not a morning person either. I’d stay in bed all day if I had a choice!! And yes, I agree that not hitting snooze helps. In fact I set my alarm to not have the snooze option at all so I’m forced to wake up.
